Edinburgh

This ancient, yet modern city truly is beautiful; not only that but also friendly, clean, bustling, vibrant, majestic, cosmopolitan and brimming with history, culture, sports and educational opportunities. You may sense we like it here.

We are staying at a charming B&B called Brig'O Doon, located on a bus route. Although Ferry Road is a main thoroughfare, our room situated at the back of this 3 story row house circa turn of the century (not the most recent turn) is very quiet. Innkeeper Jim has been more than hospitable providing us with tourist information, assisting with the lost bag issue, arranging for a cab to the golf course and serving a tasty breakfast each morning.

Edinburgh has an excellent bus system. We have waited for buses no more than 5 minutes. I love the tartan seat covers. Today at noon I counted 14 buses on one block of Princes Street.

We have been able to walk to nearby restaurants for our evening meals - Indian, Italian and traditional pub style. The food has been delicious and not as expensive as we thought.

We have explored Princes Street, the main hub below the castle and the Royal Mile. The architecture and statuary is incredible. It is impressive how the modern and trendy shops have set up business in such very old, well preserved buildings. There is a huge rail line construction project happening right in the middle of it all. Somehow the traffic, both pedestrian and vehicle, still flows smoothly. Looming above it all is old town, the magnificent castle and the historic Royal Mile just waiting for us to experience it soon.
