Even in 1AD this 350,000 year old volcanic hill served as a fortress defense for the people of that century. Not only was the castle fascinating in the rich history it holds but the venue also boasts an incredible panoramic view of the city and the Firth of Forth beyond.

We wimped out a bit by taking a bus part way up, mainly to hear about the incredible buildings and monuments that capture the eye throughout the city. After that it was cobblestones and inclines. The guides are well informed, the artifacts are remarkable, the buildings possess enduring grandeur and the visitors are awe struck.

We are very glad we made the trek. No wimping at the end for we walked the Royal Mile all the way to Holyrood House. On the way down we noticed a couple of unique signs which made us chuckle. One of them I wanted to pocket and post on our boulevard. The other made us decide to look for a different restaurant for dinner.

Our day finished with dinner in a traditional Scottish pub. Tomorrow a new adventure awaits. We pick a car and head to St. Andrew's
