IN AND AROUND MIAMI

Miami is an indigenous word, which means 'sweet water'. Water defines the character and beauty of this city, which also hosts the third tallest skyline in the USA, surpassed only by Chicago and New York. Although a huge metropolis, there is not a sense of congestion. People moving is handled efficiently with modern freeways, wide roads, bus and light rail transit, a free trolley system, bridges, causeways and, of course, all manner of flotation vehicles to maneuver the ‘sweet water’. Construction was noticeable in every district we visited. Skyscrapers tower throughout the business district, the Art Deco building interiors are gradually transformed and low level areas are being raised to address flooding issues. A bullet train rail line is being constructed to connect Miami with Orlando.

A few photos taken on the hop on/off bus adventure.

Jet skis are popular

Cars and cruise ships

The Children's Courthouse - specifically to deal with juvenile crime

Causeways and pleasure boats

The sweet water city offers a myriad of vistas and activities. We thoroughly enjoyed the time spent exploring all that Miami has to offer. Hurricane aftermath was evident but fortunately the city did not sustain extreme damage.
